Description
Day 01 – Arrival (+/- “x” kms) – Departure from district “x” to the North of Portugal. Free lunch during the journey. Meeting with the Local Leader & arrival in Viana do Castelo, capital of Alto-Minho. Visits begin with a ride up and down to the Santa Luzia sanctuary by funicular (included) with views over the Lima River estuary crossed by the Eiffel Bridge, and finally the city center with Praça da República, Avenida dos Antigos Combatentes or even the promenade along the Lima River. At the end, check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 02 – Minho River (+/-100kms) – Breakfast, check-out and travel to Caminha, a fortified town where the Coura River and the Minho River meet the Atlantic Ocean. Start of the route along the oldest natural border in the world, the Minho River. We continued to the “cervo” viewpoint, with views of the Minho River and Vila Nova de Cerveira. Finally, we arrive at Valença, a fortress town with its shops, views over the Minho River, the Eiffel Bridge, the city of Tui and an annual passage point for thousands of pilgrims heading to Santiago de Compostela. Free lunch. In the afternoon, a walk of +/- 5km along the Minho ecopista opened in 2004, with views over the surrounding mountains, villages, cultivated land, the Minho River and the neighboring country, Spain. At the end of the walk, we head to a hot springs area to relax (access to hot springs included). Arrival to accommodation, check-in, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 03 – Peneda Tour (+/- 150kms) – Breakfast and departure to Melgaço, the northernmost town in Portugal, known for its streets next to the keep and the surrounding agricultural landscapes. We continue to Castro Laboreiro, a village over 1000m above sea level, with the castle dominating the Laboreiro river valley. Free lunch. In the afternoon, we go down to Lindoso with a stop at the castle and granaries “espigueiros”, with views over the Peneda Gerês National Park. We continue along the Lindoso dam, where the Laboreiro and Lima rivers meet, to the Peneda sanctuary, with time to visit and climb its staircase of approximately 300m with scenes from the life of Christ. Finally, a guided visit to an Alvarinho wine farm (included). At the end of the visit, return to accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 04 – Vez Valley & departure (+/- 300kms) – Breakfast, check-out and departure to Tibet of Portugal, Sistelo, a traditional village known for its landscapes and hiking trails. Time to visit village center. We continue along the Vez River valley and walk for +/- 5km along the Rio Vez ecovia. Stop in the center of Arcos de Valdevez “where Portugal was made”, with time to visit the banks of the River Vez and the town center. Free lunch. In the afternoon, farewell to the Local Leader and departure to your region.
